Project FAQ

What is the Current Status of the Site?

In a series of public meetings in December 2021 and January 2022, the Ravenswood City School District School Board reviewed proposals to develop below market rate homes prioritized for teachers and staff on the former Flood School site.

In Spring 2022, Ravenswood negotiated the specifics of the contract with Alliant Communities. The District was able to finalize key terms of the contract and

brought the contract to the Ravenswood School District Board for approval. The

contract was signed, and Alliant Strategic Development was selected to move forward with a proposed project plan.

How Many Homes will the Project Create?

The contract explicitly caps the number of homes at 90 units and four floors.

Regardless of site zoning or density bonuses, this count cannot be exceeded.

Who will Live Here?

85% of the District teachers and staff are income- eligible  for below market housing and it has been agreed that they will receive first preference to rent these homes. Any unsubscribed units will be available to income-eligible residents in the greater community, including first responders, service workers and other lower-wage local professionals.

Will Teachers and Staff Want to Live Here?

Based on a May, 2022 RCSD staff survey, 43% of respondents are considering leaving the district because of the cost of local housing or the length the of their commute from more affordable communities.

Over 70% of respondents indicated an interest in workforce housing.

Over 60% of respondents said that creating below market workforce housing would make them “much more likely” to stay in the Ravenswood City School District.
